Good morning to you all and hope you enjoyed your weekend!
And welcome to the last day of Q1 … time to review how things went for you over the last three months and plan out the next three to keep your projects on track and moving ahead. 💪
One of the positives for me in Q1 was leading a live cohort through my Film Financing Bootcamp and getting a jump start on the year. In closing that out, one of the major takeaways I heard from course participants was a new-found sense of how to operate responsibly in the current economic climate of our industry, and the production planning that needs to happen in order to keep making things (while not get stuck on the sidelines of development hell.)
Beyond that and since wrapping up the course I’ve advised a few filmmakers personally on how to tweak their production planning to maximize chances of closing their financing.
Everything from my well-honed playbook on moving production overseas for 30%-50% cost savings, to executing on a micro budget while still making a film that can be a calling card for festivals and distribution, to incorporating an impact release into your distribution plan and availing yourself to potential extra funding to make that happen.
I’ve done all of these things myself and am still a practitioner working in the field producing projects from under $10K to over $10 million and everything in between. Still having fun doing it too :)
Yes SVOD licensing fees are down and AVOD revenue is still catching up but there’s ways to succeed in the ‘gap’ between that - you just need to adjust your thinking and your production planning.
In my post a couple weeks ago on Real Talk About Financing I broke down why I’m annoyed at some of the film financing panels at festivals painting a picture that doesn’t align with the filmmakers sitting in the audience.
I also offered a solution of adapting to a small but mighty operational structure and re-writing your roadmap around that.
What’s your Q2 roadmap look like?
Hit me up in the comments below and let’s workshop it together!
Let’s Rewrite Your Roadmap Together 💡
I’ll help you create a Custom Funding Strategy for your feature or series
I’m opening a few slots for Distribution + Funding Strategies one-on-one consulting where I’ll get a broad overview of your project particulars and work with you on a plan to reverse engineer a budget and cast based on what real distribution revenues look like across the streaming landscape.
I’ve worked with dozens of filmmakers in this capacity and saved them thousands of dollars and even more in headaches!
Email me your project details and let’s start a conversation on how I can help or at least point you in the right direction stacey@filmspecific.com.
On that note, I’ll wrap things up for today. I hope you have a fabulous day ahead and I’ll speak to you again soon!

Good Monday morning! Q1 was a tad trashy on my end and I did not close the deals that I needed with financing to start production in April as planned. Sad. Moving forward ... thanks for the great emails!
