Launching Your Film At EFM (+ relevant resources)
Right now is the ideal time to be making inroads with sales agents who are eagerly putting together their EFM slates.
I’ve spent some time planning out my market schedule for the first half of 2023 and evidently the sales agent community has as well. I’ve been getting lots of correspondence around building up slates to launch to international buyers at the top of the year in Feb…. I suppose everyone wants to get a handle now on what they will be presenting once we get through the holiday down time.
Also, isn’t it nice to start off the year with a bang? I love the feeling of sparking momentum right after the start of the new year that you can hopefully ride for several months.
Have A Project You Want To Launch at EFM?
To that end, I decided to reintroduce my bespoke EFM Consulting which admittedly I haven’t offered in quite a while, but with the level of demand I’m seeing in the market, it makes sense to open it up again.
If you have a completed or almost-completed film, right now is the ideal time to be making inroads with sales agents who are eagerly putting together their EFM slates.
You can reference my Process For Distribution for a step-by-step on how to secure distribution for your film, but I know some of you still want help navigating the whole thing and maneuvering around obstacles that arise.
If that resonates with you, then check out my updated Film Market Consulting offering and if it’s a fit for you, fill out the application at the bottom of the page to start a discussion.

Does This Work For Films At The Financing Stage?
To answer the most common question whether EFM can help move projects in the financing stages forward, the answer is yes but it highly depends on whether you have relevant talent attachments and/or if you have a project that has real potential for an international co-production.
I realize this statement sounds vague so if there’s a question whether your project meets the criteria, feel free to fill out the application with what you have in place and I can advise you further whether I’d be able to help or not.
Also, you can reference the primer Process For Getting Your Film Financed for other helpful tips.
Does This Work For Series?
After my email on Tuesday around Producing Your Own Series Pilot I received some questions whether there’s a series side bar at upcoming EFM and actually there is - the Berlin Series market which takes place the second week is a great place to connect with European broadcast and streaming commissioners as well as possible co-pro partners. It’s also a great lead-in for MIPTV which will follow a couple months later.
If you’re putting together a series AND it has a European angle then you might consider using EFM to move your project forward.
Reference my post Series Development: Same But Different for context on the similarities and differences between developing a series vs. a feature film.
