A Holistic Approach To Packaging
Beyond the stars, glitter, and glam there's a whole lot of nuance
Today Packaging is on my mind as it’s the single most effective growth lever you can pull to add value to your project - particularly when you’re out looking for financing.
Packaging though is much more nuanced than just attaching talent - I discuss a more holistic approach to Packaging in my Funding Strategies Playbook course and am strategically advising members in FS Pro on this as we speak.
If you want more of my musings on Packaging you can check out some of my previous posts here on Substack like:

BUT… what I wanted to chat about today is the fact that in a post-double-strike reality that we’re all living through, Packaging has taken on a whole new meaning.
As in, actors, producers, directors… it’s only part of the equation.
There’s also unique hooks, your unfair advantage, brand participation, impact partners, how your story relates to current events and bigger themes in the zeitgeist… just to name a few.
I listened to an interview with a couple of top managers in the business for A-list writers and show runners and they echoed the fact that even at the highest levels, it takes a village of collaborators and elements to grease the wheels enough to push projects through to getting the green light.
So take solace in the fact that it’s not just us Indies suffering through all this - it’s happening at every level in different ways.
Possible work arounds and solutions?
I’m considering a whole series of posts on Holistic Packaging and would love to hear from you if it’s something you’d be interested in and what specific questions you have.
Could you let me know in the comments below please?
Let’s keep this conversation going!
Have a wonderful day and speak again soon…

I would love to hear more about a holistic approach to packaging! I think that's a wonderful and timely discussion/lesson. I read through all the posts you linked on the matter and I'm curious if you have any advice when it comes to attaching a more well-known producer- are there any things other than previous connection and a director's body of work that might a producer might look for when it comes to choosing first time features?
Hey Stacey. Great post. Can I ask which 'interview with the top managers' you were referencing? Would love to hear it.
