We’re in the home stretch of 2023 for real. I’m spending a lot of time in year-end ‘audit mode’ and plotting next year’s moves. For many of us, this was a year of building - especially since there were dual strikes so Production was slower. I’m declaring next year to be a year of making. Who’s with me?

At the end of last week, this came in - one of the films I produced Pinball got on the Best Movies of 2023 list from New Yorker magazine. Amazing! And a great way to cap off the year for our entire team.

Funding Strategies Playbook

Back in the day we used to have the Million Dollar Blueprint as a mini-course on the Film Specific site. Who remembers that? We still get emails about it as people want access to the ‘blueprint’ to making a million dollar (plus or minus) indie film.

The truth is, none of what we taught then is relevant anymore and hasn’t been for years, which is why we no longer publish it.

I’ve been meaning to update it and finally settled on a way I’d like to deliver this and do it right at the beginning of the year because let’s face it - after a year of strikes and everything else, we all have things we want to get made in 2024!

To that end, I’m putting together a Funding Strategies Playbook mini-course. It’ll cover the frameworks I’m currently using to finance my films and advise private clients on, plus new business models and approaches that are relevant today.

I’m going to deliver it via email (most likely through Substack) so you’ll have short action-oriented ‘lessons’ delivered to your inbox every week or two for the first couple months of the year, along with strategic downloadable resources to accompany the lessons. The idea is that by the end of Q1 you’ll have some solid strategies under your belt for approaching funding for your projects.
